A remarkable 1950s Scottish brooch modelled in solid sterling silver and inlaid with polished lime-green Iona marble segments which graduate in size toward the edges, with decorative patterning engraved in between.
Iona marble is found exclusively on the Isle of Iona in Scotland and is desired for its natural olive-green and white colouring which evokes the beauty of plants, trees and the natural world. It was often carried as a protective talisman among the sailors of the island who believed it would ensure their safe journey home.
A wonderful statement piece, highly collectable and in excellent condition with Chester hallmarks on the back, dating it to 1953.
